In 2011 I took an on-line class titled “How To Think Sideways” by Holly Lisle. Its worth every darned cent I spent, plus some. These classes are “work at your own pace” which is invaluable when you work, have a family, attend school, or any other hectic schedule.
The first lesson begins with breaking thought processes that hinder your writing. Holly takes you step by step identifying each one, and helps you begin retraining your thinking. The second lesson teaches about the “sweet spot” and guides you in learning to listen to your muse. The full course outline is available on her website. Holly includes exercises, examples, and questions & answers for each lesson. They’re delivered each week to your email.
Holly Lisle has over thirty published novels. She’s published in the traditional way, but in 2011 decided to self publish. Her knowledge and insight is quite valuable. She also offers a course on this as well.
Her teaching is straight forward, honest, and shows you how to improve. I’ve taken classes where the instructor tells you, “If you want to get published it ‘s done a specific way”, but they don’t teach you how to accomplish those goals.” Each week Holly breaks the topic down, gives you examples, and the tools to reach those goals.
I completed all 27 weeks, and plan to take another class on revision. Here is her link for additional information. http://hollylisle.com/writing-courses/ Holly will make you laugh, cry, and fill you with hope.
Until Next Time…
