I search for new ideas, and I’ve seen them on TV this season. Let’s look at a few examples.
I love this show! What a refreshing idea, and it works with a base of characters and storyline that most people know already. For those of you that aren’t watching the show here’s what Wikipedia says: “The story is set in the fictional small town of Storybrooke, Maine. The town is populated by characters from fairy tales, who have been exiled to the real world due to a curse cast by the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) as part of a revenge plot against Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin), and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas). Because of the curse, most of the inhabitants of Storybrooke have no memory of their true identities and have been stuck timelessly in Storybrooke for years.”
Another example is the TV show, “Awake”. I came to the party a bit late on this one so I downloaded missed episodes. Now, I’m hooked. Here’s the storyline. The main character is Detective Michael Britten who wakes up after a car accident and finds that his wife died, leaving his son and himself behind. The next day he wakes to find himself next to his wife in their bed, and they had lost their son. Each time he goes to sleep at night, he wakes up in the alternate reality. Also, the homicide cases he works intermingle between realities giving him the insight to solve them. However, he begins to question which reality is real, if either.
So while entertaining your idea, what’s different about it? What twist are you giving? What are you bringing to the table that’s different? Watch tv, movies, read outside your genre or visit a museum to stir creativity.
Until Next Time…
