Last night I watched the most recent episode with my husband. Army Wives touches on important issues, and this one cut right through me.
Two of the main characters, Claudia Joy and Denise, were staying at a vacation home for a few days. While walking on the beach, they met a young man who offered to buy them drinks. The women kindly let him know they were married, and declined. Later that night, Claudia Joy went into town for groceries. When she came home, a gun greeted her. Denise sat on the couch, hands tied, and her cheek busted. They young man they had met on the beach intended to have that drink with them, and more.
While talking to the women, he let them know how they had assisted him. When he met them on the beach, they said their husbands would be joining them in a few days. When Claudia Joy left for groceries, she left the door unlocked because it was a remote area and she felt safe. He knew they were alone, and walked right through the front door.
There were several times the women had opportunities to overpower him, if they’d had some self-defense training.
My husband and I have trained in the martial arts, and we have both used what we’ve learned. I also helped train young children and hubby trained the elderly to use their canes and walkers to defend themselves. Self defense has no age limits.
If you’ve ever thought about attending a self-defense class, please check into your community to see what they offer.
So while this show is still running through my head, lock your doors, (including car doors), don’t talk to strangers and take a self-defense class.
Before I wrap up, thank you to every man and woman who has fought and served our country for our freedom!!
Until Next Time…
