I don’t know any human that hasn’t experienced pain, some more than others. As a society, we run from it, drink, smoke, eat, stuff our feelings and in return it makes us sick. Maybe our relationships suffer, or our mental,  physical, or spiritual health declines. Everything we do connects, and every decision to not face the pain backfires. We as writers are fortunate that we have the capability to take care of ourselves. So, be good to yourself, and no matter what you are feeling… write…

faucet quote

“Things don’t go wrong and break your heart so you can become bitter and give up. They happen to break you down and build you up so you can be all that you were intended to be.” – Charlie Jones

“Pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our consciences, but shouts in our pains. It is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” ― C.S. Lewis

“What happens when people open their hearts?…They get better” ― Haruki Murakami

“The human heart has a way of making itself large again even after it’s been broken into a million pieces.”― Robert James Waller

I'm a writer

“No one has the power to shatter your dreams unless you give it to them.” ― Maeve Greyson

“If you have a dream, don’t just sit there. Gather courage to believe that you can succeed and leave no stone unturned to make it a reality.” Roopleen

“You may be the only person left who believes in you, but it’s enough. It takes just one star to pierce a universe of darkness. Never give up.” ― Richelle E. Goodrich

“One of the most powerful lessons in life is to recognize that no one can give you power, and many people don’t want you to have it. You have to find the courage to seize it, own it and hold on!”― Shannon L. Alder

“You will never know how much you can accomplish until you try. Never stop trying. Your miracle will come in undefined moments.” ― Lailah GiftyAkita

“Believe you can and you’re halfway there” ― Theodore Roosevelt

I love quotes, especially when they are uplifting and encouraging about the struggles in our life. Writing is as much a joy as it is a struggle. Many people dream to write, few actually do. This first one is my favorite.

“Don’t try to figure out what other people want to hear from you; figure out what you have to say. It’s the one and only thing you have to offer.” – Barbara Kingsolver

“First, find out what your hero wants, then just follow him!” – Ray Bradbury

“Most of the basic material a writer works with is acquired before the age of fifteen.” – Willa Cather

“I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.” – Douglas Adams

“Get it down. Take chances. It may be bad, but it’s the only way you can do anything really good.” – William      Faulkner

“I am irritated by my own writing. I am like a violinist whose ear is true, but whose fingers refuse to reproduce precisely the sound he hears within.” – Gustave Flaubert

“You learn by writing short stories. Keep writing short stories. The money’s in novels, but writing short stories keeps your writing lean and pointed.” – Larry Niven
